Windriders have long been a popular boat
for resorts and for good reason. They are easy to sail, very
low maintenance, and virtually indestructable. Many of our new
owners first tried a Windrider while on vacation and fell in love
with the sand, the surf and the excitement!

Construction
Simply put rental programs are hard on
sailboats. Add in the detrimental effects of sun, sand and
salt and its the main reason why boats at resorts always look old
and well used. The Windriders hull is designed for running off
a beach and being hauled up, you don't have to worry about scratches
and gouges, the material is very forgiving and the natural finish
out of the mold hides imperfections. The only sign of aging
you'll notice in your fleet is fading, and stick with white and even
that isn't a problem.
Simple, Durable
Components
Our experience suggests that only a few
items need to be replaced over time. In the first 5-7 yrs
given heavy use you can expect to replace the sails (approx $1200),
the trampolines (approx $500) and perhaps the lines (approx $100)
and standing rigging (approx $300). All of these items are
readily available through Windrider, but replacement and repair
parts are also easily sourced at your local chandlery in a
pinch. The remaining items on the boat seldom wear out.
Many Windriders have been out at resorts for 10 years plus and we
never hear from them.
Easy to Sail
We've all seen sail boats sitting on the
beach at resorts unused and in various states of
repair. Sailing something fun has always equated with
speed, and speed with potential capsize (beach cats!), hiking
(dinghys) and a certain level of expertise. The Windrider 17
dispels all of those myths. They are popular with owners for
the same reasons why they are popular at resorts. A beginner
can master the boat in seconds. They are virtually impossible
to capsize, (no boat is impossible to capsize!) and the
performance is, well exhiliarating for a first timer! It's not
uncommon to see a wait list for the windrider while the beach
cats and lasers sit on the beach.
